A Note to the Class of 2010

The following note is the content of a handwritten card anonymously delivered to the Mount Carmel class of 2010 by a former MCBS student.

Hey Carmel class!  I just wanted to take some time to give you all a little encouragement for your year at Carmel!

Take time to really research and dive deep into the assignments and papers you write.  Everything you do here at Carmel has to do with your faith and how you live that faith actively in your life.  If you take some extra time to really dive into the topics, you will learn so much!

Ask lots of questions!  This is your year that you get to come to school everyday and have all the staff who have studied the Bible and the Christian faith and they want to help you answer your questions.  Sometimes you won't get an answer, but it means that you are really searching and seeking God out! And that's awesome!

Put God first and look upward everyday and in every circumstance.  It's easy to lose sight of God at a Bible school.  Remember that Satan hates relationships and everything that Carmel strives to achieve.  He will do EVERYTHING he possibly can to stop you growing in your faith.  Make a conscious effort to push Satan away and look to God to take over and reign over the school, your Impact placements, everyone you come in contact with, and everywhere you go.

Be vulnerable.  Carmel is a great, safe place to come before each other and God just as you are.  The staff here want to help you and they want to see change in you!  This is a year to change your life and being vulnerable before your classmates and the staff will allow openness for God to penetrate your heart and change your life forever!

Try not to pass up any fun activities or events that your class is involved in.  It's sad to say, but you have only eight months together and it goes a lot faster than you think. Spending as much time as possible together gives you the opportunity to enjoy and learn from your awesome classmates.  If you pass up those opportunities, it's very likely you are going to regret it later on.

Stretch yourself. You will find yourself in situations that may put you outside your comfort zone. This is scary, but really good!  Take this opportunity to cling to God and rely fully on his strength to help you through. Don't be scared of these times that stretch you.  Look at it as an opportunity to let God work in you and through you!

Allow God to open your eyes.  On your mission trips to Vancouver and High Level and even in your Impact placements, your eyes will be opened to witness things you have never seen before.  Countless times in the gospels, Jesus sees people not like the world would see them, but as children of God. My challenge to you is to go out in the world and ask God to open your eyes to see people through the eyes of Jesus.

Run after God this year and experience his peace, rest, love and power!  Have fun and enjoy every minute!  Be blessed Carmel class!
